We drove to the walled city of Carcassonne today. There is an old city that is fully walled and has the castle in it, and a newer city (1300’s), down below that seemed to be walled to a certain extent. The castle has been amazingly we refurbished (1800’s) and the tiny walking roads of the old city are quite a sight. Too bad about all the cheesy shops that line the streets with classic tourist stuff. Even hotels and B&B’s in there.
Andrew, of course, bought himself and dagger-like knife which he is very pleased with. I actually think it is a letter opener.
There is a spectacular stretch of road the the route to and from Carcassone where the road is extremely windy following the river (nothing new really), there are rock out-crops over the road, amazing rock spires for mountains, and super railway tunnels and structures. Also a castle up in the mountains to view. An interesting, but tiring day. Hope all is well back home.

ReplyDeletethe country side looks amazing..... keep the pictures coming... glad to hear all is going well and that you are getting out to see the countryside!
ReplyDeleteWow Andrew - you sure look like your are having fun. The river looks more exciting than the slip and slide at my grandma's in Duncan. We are staying here in a tent on her back lawn for the week. It is really hot this week. I wish I was with you in France. You sure can leap frog high now - that picture was amazing. I hope I see you when you come home. From Lucy
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you guys are enjoying yourself. Glenn, not like you to forget something - you must really be relaxed over there! But let's be honest, start taking photos of the bottles of wine, give us a simple review, and include prices. Not to mention, I would love to hear Andrew's opinion of the wines - you are letting him have the full European experience ... right? If nothing else Glenn ... a couple of "good" photos of the beaches (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) ... I love the culture over there!
ReplyDeleteBe safe, and continue to have fun. Miss you!
Hey tenHove Whitneys - Carcasonne looks just like the box! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThe kids say to tell Andrew that they think his purchases are very cool and they wish they could be eating as much ice cream and playing on the beach as much as him. Rowan and Jonas have spent the last 24 hours head over the toilet - they are supposed to be at daycamp and I am supposed to be being productive! Never fails...
Miss you all!
Love yas!
